Na Chainkua Reindorf folds, moulds, weaves, and wefts large-scale tapestries and immersive sculptural installations. Her work is informed and inspired by the visual language of West African textiles and serves as an ode to the cultural history of weaving traditions such as kente.
Through canvas and yarns, Patrick and Na Chainkua both explore the vibrancy of West African culture. Na Chainkua’s current body of work spotlights the craft and magic of masquerade dress using kente yarns, wire mesh, and glass beads to depict the reverence of costume. Bright and brilliant, her works flow and invite you to step forward and admire her three-piece series: Dance, Follow Me, and Big Mouth. Each artwork has been produced specially for Art X Lagos.
Patrick Tagoe-Turkson will also debut new works that have been meditating for over a decade in his studio. Through five monochromatic ink drawings, such as Adomba (Bells), Asabone (Bad Dance), and Kwasia Agor (Fool’s Game), illustrating contours and landscapes that shape his daily interactions, Patrick Tagoe-Turkson connects the viewer to his multi-layered reality. A limited edition of three A1 size prints of each drawing will be available to purchase during the fair.
