This exhibition is designed to inform and educate all visitors about Ghana’s new national asset, oil, leaving no stone unturned.

This exhibition is designed to inform and educate all visitors about Ghana’s new national asset, oil, leaving no stone unturned. The education encompasses all the stages, from oil exploration to production.

Oil prospecting in Ghana began in the late 19th century, in 1896, and over the years many forays have been made into further exploration until commercially viable quantities were discovered in recent years. Starting with the history of oil formation, the exhibition explores the processes of exploration, appraisal, and preparation through to actual production. Visitors will gain insight into daily work carried out on rigs and production vessels and learn about activities on the subsea field.

The exhibition also chronicles several histories—the formation of oil itself, the history of oil exploration worldwide, and the story of exploration in Ghana.

Visitors will marvel at the extent to which oil and its by-products have permeated modern life. There are very few products used today that do not contain a component manufactured from a by-product of oil. Visitors will leave with a deeper and enhanced understanding of Ghana’s new national asset.

Another thought they will leave with is this: As we benefit from a process that began on Earth more than 100 million years ago, how are we ensuring that through our actions today, we do not destroy the Earth and that we leave a lasting legacy for future generations?
