Kwame Nkrumah:
An Exhibition of His Life

Nubuke Foundation has been one of the first venues to set the ball rolling on the Nkrumah Centenary Celebrations. On 13th September 2009, the foundation opened the show entitled: KWAME NKRUMAH: EXHIBITION OF HIS LIFE AND LAUNCH OF LEXICON.

Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s life was probably just a little bit more than fiction. It is indeed strange that he has not enjoyed as much mythification as other world figures. To a lot of people however, his life, so wrought with controversy, misunderstanding and almost super-human achievements, is the very stuff of which legends are written. The stature of the man and the significance of his philosophical thought, not only to Ghana, his Beloved country, but to the world at large cannot be disputed. It is in honouring this gem amongst gems, Kwame Nkrumah, arguably the foremost founder of this nation that the Nubuke Foundation conceived this show.

Larger -than -life and nostalgic, as if mirroring the very stature of Osagyefo himself, the black and white photographs on display, silently hanging on the gallery walls, evoke an intriguing response to all who see them. And as if to give voice to the silent photos, succinct quotes, carefully culled from some of the poignant speeches and writings, of this great African Personality, bring us to the awareness that it is time we revisited not only Kwame Nkrumah, but the great host of thinkers that Africa has nurtured for the world.

To his contemporaries, a shining example
and full of verve
To his people, a born leader
faithful and reliable
To his admirers, a source of inspiration
almost infallible
To his detractors, a bad headache
and full of nerve
And to the world an awesome enigma
we were only just awakening...(B.A-J. 2009)

The highlight of the day was the launch of a lexicon on Kwame Nkrumah.

The show: KWAME NKRUMAH: EXHIBITION OF HIS LIFE AND LAUNCH OF LEXICON is curated by Kofi Setordji and Odile Agyare and is ongoing at the Nubuke Foundation.

The whole month of October has been dedicated to children. They may visit the show in school groups of in family groups and also sign up to the Reading Club or any of the Workshops that are available.
