This captivating showcase brings together their shared passion for exploring materiality, cultural resonance, and the interplay of traditional and contemporary design.

Nubuke Foundation presents Negative to Positive, a collaborative exhibition featuring the works of two extraordinary artists, Gill Quarcoopome and Kati Torda. This captivating showcase brings together their shared passion for exploring materiality, cultural resonance, and the interplay of traditional and contemporary design.

Gill Quarcoopome’s designs are evocative and fashionable, employing geometric shapes embellished with gold weights, glass, animal horns, and bronze works. Her creations—belts, necklaces, bangles, purses, and bags—hang alongside mirrors and paintings, presenting a harmonious fusion of wearable art and visual storytelling. Her work captures the essence of diverse cultures, blending function and art in pieces that are both striking and meaningful.

Kati Torda’s bold, colorful, and ambitious works blend traditional and contemporary aesthetics. Drawing on a dramatic fusion of Ashanti bronze, Dogon pendants, recycled glass, and antique European trade beads, Torda’s designs exude elegance and symbolic depth. Her installations of beads arranged in circular formations radiate a serene yet dynamic energy, resonating with both the history and sanctity of bead jewelry. Her work invites viewers to contemplate the deep-rooted traditions while appreciating her modern artistic interpretation.

Together, Negative to Positive creates an immersive experience where heritage and innovation coexist, inspiring reflection on the potential of traditional materials in contemporary art. Join us at Nubuke Foundation to celebrate these extraordinary contributions to Ghanaian art and culture.
