The Nubuke Foundation is proud to work with a host of creative minds from Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and the USA in bringing this exhibition to the public.

‘Voyage of [Re]Discovery’ will be exhibited at the main gallery of Nubuke Foundation and Ussher Fort in Jamestown, Accra.

Exhibiting part of the exhibition at this historic site says a lot about the journey of the development of artistic practice in Ghana.

That the artists’ exploration and embrace of new material, media, and locations is testament to their openness to taking their voices to unexplored spaces and communities.

The Ussher Fort prison serves as one such space – carrying a heavy burden of oppression and pain.

Similarly, I welcome the view of the custodians of this national heritage site – the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board – in the planning of this exhibition: that a little bit of interaction is better than none. With this in mind, the works being displayed at the fort will subtly invite the visitor to journey with the artists to rediscover the myriad histories metaphorically buried in the fort.

The Nubuke Foundation is proud to work with a host of creative minds from Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and the USA in bringing this exhibition to the public. This year we passed the curatorial baton to Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, and we are proud to welcome him to the team.
